What Does It Mean to Win a Football Championship?

Today, my 10 year old son Parker can call himself a football champ! It's a title that has come with the price of a headache that makes you vomit, bruises that take weeks to go away, a missed trip on the Clearwater to catch steelhead and hours of practice where you are asked to remember all the plays because coach is playing you at quarterback. If you were to ask Parker if the price he paid was worth it, he would tell you..."it was the best experience ever!"

As his mother, the price I paid was rubbing his back while he vomited from the killer headache, placed ice packs on sore elbows and legs, sat with him while he cried as his dad left for Lewiston to fish for steelhead, washed and folded several loads of football jerseys, drove him to and from practice every night, lost two free hours with my husband because they needed another coach and prayed like hell my son could get up after every tackle.

Was the price we paid worth it? Yes. Because today my son won a football championship and I couldn't tell you which was bigger...the trophy or the smile.
